Village SCAT receives $10,000 grant

Village SCAT is among 20 nonprofits nationwide to receive a generous $10,000 grant from The Baker Tilly Wishes program to support SCAT’s mission to provide affordable and reliable transportation for Hot Springs Village residents.

The grant recipients are chosen from among those nominated by Baker Tilly associates, and this year more than 300 nonprofits were submitted for grants. Renee Budden, an HSV resident and SCAT volunteer, nominated SCAT for making a difference in the community where she lives and works.

“We are so grateful to receive this grant from Baker Tilly, especially because it was submitted by one of our committed volunteers,” said Tom Grasse, Village SCAT president. “We are proud to receive an award that recognizes the meaningful role our all-volunteer organization plays in helping seniors who need transportation for medical and dental appointments, shopping, and recreation and social activities.”

The grant will help fund a new vehicle.

Village SCAT offered its first ride in March 2010, more than 15 years ago, and now provides more than 5,000 rides annually. The 501(c)3 nonprofit operates five vehicles, including one wheel-chair accessible van, and has more than 80 volunteer schedulers and drivers.

Baker Tilly (bakertilly.com) is a leading advisory, tax and assurance firm. Its Wishes program is part of the Baker Tilly Foundation’s commitment to being stewards of the communities it serves.

“Baker Tilly Wishes is a powerful reflection of who we are,” said Jennifer Soltis, president and chairman of the Baker Tilly Foundation. “Our team members consistently identify organizations that are doing important, often deeply personal work in their communities.”
